“Resonant Fields (2022) – presented by DrugAware”

We were privileged to partner this year with Propel Youth Arts WA, Drug Aware YCulture Metro and the WA Maritime Museum to put on a 5-part workshop series and concert as part of the 2022 Youth Week WA Kickstart Festival. over 4 weeks, an ensemble of 17 emerging musicians participated in four improvisation workshops led by renowned artists from Perth’s exploratory music scene. This workshop series culminated in a public concert and recording release in April which featured a long-form improvisation, celebrating the skills the ensemble had built over the project.

The project began in 2020 as a concert produced by the UWA Music Student Society. The goal of the concert was to provide less experienced participants with the means to successfully engage in a large-ensemble improvisation. A second event, hosted by the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery featured a smaller group performing in response to the gallery’s then exhibition “Feeling Abstract”.
