Resonant Fields is a Perth-based initiative premised upon performing exploratory and improvisatory music. In particular, we are concerned with proliferating the improvisational practice long cultivated within smaller experimental music groups to the wider WA musical community.
The RF ensemble comprises over 20 young and emerging musicians, and has performed with a variety of groups including the Blue Room Theatre’s Summer Nights Festival, WA KickstART Festival, Goolugatup Sounds, Hidden Treasures Freo, the UWA Music Student Society, the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, Perth FLOCK Festival, and the WA Maritime Museum. The group creates vibrant soundworlds through cohesive, collaborative improvisation.

NOISEROOM 2023
Resonant Fields is proud to present NOISEROOM — our new, upcoming production in partnership with the Blue Room Theatre’s Summer Nights Festival!
NOISEROOM is the culmination of 3 experimental art practices working together in harmony through live performance. Together with contemporary dance and audio-responsive projected art, NOISEROOM explores a creative dialogue between sound, movement, and light within an abstract narrative. Come and experience this improvisational, ever-changing performance!

UWA Improvisation Workshops
We are proudly partnered with the UWA Conservatorium of Music to put on an annual season of improvisation sessions at the UWA campus, these sessions often feature special guest artists and workshop facilitators. More information is available on the Resonant Fields Facebook Page.

we were privileged to partner with Propel Youth Arts WA, Drug Aware YCulture Metro, and the WA Maritime Museum to put on a workshop series and concert as part of the 2022 Youth Week WA Kickstart Festival. over 4 weeks, a 17-piece ensemble engaged in sessions led by renowned artists from Perth’s exploratory music scene. The project culminated in a public concert and recording of a long-form group improvisation.

While being a primarily music focused organisation, our projects span cross-disciplinary performances, incorporating dance, visual arts, and photography/film.
Various musicians have gone on to find new stages, collaborations, and skill sets from the Resonant Fields projects. Education and development is at the heart of our major project series, allowing new and pre-existing artists from a variety of different art forms to collaborate and cross-pollinate their practices.
